KEÇMEK

KEÇMEK is a non-formal education organization established to complement formal education for the residents of Keçiören, with the aim of:

• raising their personal qualifications,

• developing their vocational and artistic knowledge,

• increasing their capacity regarding urban culture and life in a metropolis,

• helping them move from being passive consumers to active producers,

• contributing to their income generation,

• improving their employability,
  and similar goals.

It provides training at our course centers to all residents of Keçiören, without any age limitation, especially to meet the educational needs of individuals who have not been able to benefit from formal education opportunities. It seeks to strengthen the perception that education continues throughout life and to increase participation.

It offers the traditional master–apprentice approach in line with the principles of modern education systems, without compromising on quality. It aims to improve the quality of education from the perspective of innovation, rationality, scientific approach, participation and continuity.

It contributes to the raising of educated and socially aware individuals in society.

Within the scope of social responsibility, KEÇMEK aims to add value to Keçiören Municipality by ensuring participant satisfaction for all trainees and staff satisfaction for all employees. By transforming effort into production, it contributes to both individual and social development.

In addition to providing free arts and vocational training, KEÇMEK also organizes exhibitions, seminars, fairs, publications, competitions, panels, conferences and similar events.

FOREIGN LANGUAGES

In this field, trainees gain the knowledge and skills to comfortably express themselves, their needs and life plans in daily life, to apply what they learn in real life, and to express themselves in more advanced conversations. Training is offered in English, Arabic and Ottoman Turkish.

CLOTHING WORKSHOP

In this branch, trainees:

• learn the design elements of women’s clothing,

• prepare pattern, cutting and pre-sewing processes and complete sewing,

• acquire knowledge of design principles, design methods and artistic drawing rules,

• gain the competence to dress a garment on a silhouette and add color.

COOKING AND PASTRY WORKSHOP

In this highly popular branch, trainees learn to:

• use kitchen tools, equipment and appliances,

• work independently under hygienic and sanitary conditions,

• carry out pre-preparation,

• decorate cakes and prepare pide dough properly.

HOME TEXTILE WORKSHOP

In this branch, KEÇMEK enables trainees to:

• carry out professional calculations and decorative work for trousseau (dowry) items,

• recognize fabrics used for trousseau products,

• sew zippers in accordance with technical rules,

• combine pieces correctly.

Trainees gain knowledge and skills in the “Bridal Trousseau Preparation” branch.

HANDICRAFTS WORKSHOP

In the Handicrafts training program, trainees learn to:

• join irregular fabric pieces and decorate them with embroidery, beads, lace and ribbon,

• combine various fabrics, ornaments, boxes and different materials to create decorative wedding favors,

• use different fabrics, crochet hooks, five knitting needles etc. to produce functional handicrafts.

PHOTOGRAPHY ACADEMY

In this branch, trainees are trained as qualified photography assistants who:

• photograph products or subjects,

• prepare the photographs they take for printing.

The course “Photography” (Photo Shooting) is offered.

SPORTS ACADEMY

In the Sports Academy, trainees exercise to music together with group members, using characteristic movements, combinations and transitions.

Those who aim to build a strong body perform 30–40 basic movements to condition the whole body and, through pilates, create a synthesis of balance, breathing and movement systems that supports mind–body unity.

BEAUTY AND HAIR CARE ACADEMY

In this branch, trainees who attend the Beauty and Hair Care Academy:

• learn to perform hand and foot care procedures in accordance with hygiene and health rules,

• gain the ability to select skin care products suitable for different skin types,

• acquire the skills to perform hair cutting, coloring, styling, care and dyeing techniques independently within a given time.

Our traditional handicrafts, which constitute one of the most important parts of our cultural heritage, have reached the present day as the artistic reflection of our deep-rooted past. KEÇMEK brings together many forgotten or nearly forgotten Turkish-Islamic arts with new generations.

In our courses, each branch is introduced with information about its history and development, accompanied by practical work.

LITERACY

This branch, which consists of two levels, is a course opened to teach literacy to adults who have not received basic education.

Its aim is to:

• provide functional literacy skills to adults who cannot read and write,

• offer training equivalent to the first five years of primary school.

DICTION

This training enables trainees to pronounce sounds and words correctly while speaking, to choose words that are semantically and tonally appropriate to the sentence, to use intonation correctly, and to express themselves in the best possible way.
